I have now been working for one week. Sometimes the learning curve can be quite harsh. This week I started out with good intentions, and ended the week just trying to survive. My days started with beep beep beep at 5:30am. I roll out of bed to my knees to say my prayers, then to the shower and personal prep time. By 6:15, I'm ready, bedroom is ready, bathroom is ready, so time for scriptures and then the kids. By about 6:30, I am doing breakfast, lunches, and encouraging the children quite loudly to get ready. We call DSH at 7 so we can do family scriptures and prayer, then I am out the door with S and R, leaving 1T and 2T to get off to school themselves. Incidentally, it only took 2T one day to realize that no one would know if they went to school or not.
As the week went on, I became more and more exhausted. There is something draining about trying to keep up with and keep the interest of 5 year olds. These children were also very kind so share their knowledge, as well as their germs with me. By Thursday, I was so tired, and could feel a cold coming on.
On Friday, after a cold medicine induced sleep, I decided that hairspray, contacts and makeup were over rated, and I could benefit myself far more with another half hour of sleep. I seriously considered hot lunch for the kids, and didn't care if someone wanted to look at the house. I'd never see them anyway, right? At least I made it to the school on time, never mind the fact that I was probably spreading germs. They were only the same ones that had been shared with me. I guess I should have cared a little more because I had 2 students ask me the same question that day.
" Are you the same lady that was here the other day?"
Haha! Amazing what seems trivial when sleep is on the line. I remember Mom telling me that after Banana went to kindergarten she felt 10 years younger. (one more year....one more year...)
ReplyDeleteAnd tell 2T you have a nanny-cam set up in his bedroom. Punk! :)

ReplyDeleteSeriously? That thought crossed his mind? Has he skipped school yet?
ReplyDeleteHang in there...it gets easier...though I'm not sure about the 5:30 part. Just keep in mind, it's just 2 months. Then you'll be sitting around twiddling your thumbs. Oh wait, you'll be prepping for camp full time by then. ;) Nevermind.
That's funny about what the kids said.
Hilarious! He didn't even recognize you?! You'd better just sleep in 15 minutes instead of 30.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the house goes, I don't want you to move anyway, so I agree with you! If they see potential in it despite heaps of laundry on the couch and chocolate ice cream dripping from the countertops then they are the right ones for the house. I guess.
HAHA!! Got to love how tactless and honest kids are.
